I used standard 7.5" bendable straws with the bending part cut off to make each side 5.5".

96 straws, thread, red & yellow cellophane, scotch tape.

I had one problem with this design.  The thread cut into the straws.   May be you could reinforce the straw ends with glue or something, to prevent this and make the kite last longer.

10 Unit Tetrahedral

60 coffee stirrer, thread, tissue paper, scotch tape.

Problems: Coffee stirrers bent.

you can buy a box of 100 coffee stirrers to make a 16 unit kite.   flies in light wind. You can keep weight down by using as little scotch tape as possible.

Experimental Tetrahedrals

Left: Made from heavy craft 3/16 " tubes.  The tubes were to heavy and the kite didn't fly very well.  may be in higher wind.

Right: Small tetrahedral, made with Q-tips with the cotton removed.   never tested !!

Cellophane Double Diamond

Original construction flies in very light wind.
4 - 36" x 1/8" wood dowels, cellophane, kite string, scotch tape.

  I suggest useing 4 - 36" x 3/16" dowels.
